After Tulane left the SEC, the rivalry diminished and the two teams renewed the rivalry in 2006. LSUs traditional rival in the SEC is Ole Miss and their rivalry has declined for various reasons, including a perceived lack of competitiveness. LSU’s four primary football rivalries are: Arkansas Razorbacks, Auburn Tigers, Alabama Crimson Tide, and the Florida Gators. LSU has also a lesser rivalry with the Tennessee Volunteers as the teams do not play each other on an annual basis.
LSU claims two national championships (1958 and 2003). However, the school has been recognized as national champions by polling organizations on 4 additional occasions: 1908, 1935, 1936 and 1962.
The Tigers did not field a team in 1918 (World War I).
