The Barbie doll was created by American businesswoman Ruth Handler and was manufactured by Mattel, Inc. and was launched on March 9, 1959 at the American Toy Fair in New York City.

The Ken doll was introduced in 1960 as Barbie’s boyfriend. Barbie was not a baby doll; instead she was a role model for teenage girls and a way for girls to imagine what they wanted to be when they grew up.
