Georgia in which they beat the Bulldogs, 10-0. George Petrie was the first football coach at the University of Auburn. Auburn played its first game against the University of Alabama on February 22, 1893 in which the one-time coach, D.M. Balliet, led the team to a victory of 32-22 at Lakeview Park in Birmingham. The teams continued to play against each other until a 1907 dispute over expenses and the teams did not play against each other again until a 1947 Alabama House of Representatives resolution was passed. The season of 1948 was the first time the teams faced off at Birmingham's Legion Field. Legion Field hosted the "Iron Bowl," that is, the neutral-ground match-up for Alabama and Auburn, from 1948 until 1998.
Bo Jackson and Pat Sullivan are the famous player and are also been awarded the Heisman trophy.

Pat Dye – Who first played for the University of Georgia under Coach Wally Butts and was also an assistant coach at the University of Alabama when Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant was head coach. Auburn won four SEC championships during Dye's coaching from 1981 to 1992.
James Ralph "Shug" Jordan – Who coached as an assistant at the University of Georgia and coached Auburn University from 1951 to 1975 with a total of 176 wins for Auburn.
John Heisman – Who coached the Auburn team from 1895 until 1899 during which time he won a total of 12 games, lost 2 games, and had 2 ties.
Mascot:
The official mascot of Auburn University is Aubie the Tiger. Aubie was first seen on February 28, 1979 at the Birmingham-Jefferson County Civic Center.
